Stadium Updates, With Pictures
FIFA posted some stadium updates on their site that I have been meaning to get to. Today I finally did. The first talks of some of the international design elements and focuses on the one in Port Elizabeth, "like no other".
Interestingly, Port Elizabeth was quietly taken out of the list of four venues for the Confederations Cup because it was not expected to be ready by the deadline of March 30, 2009. It is the only of the five Confederations Cup venues that is a new construction. There is little information on FIFA's site as to why it was removed, but it is mentioned in this article about volunteers and it no longer appears on the map of Confed Cup venues.
A second update details progress at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. This is one of the venues for the semifinals. Check out the tiny pictures for an idea of what the arch over the stadium will be like. It looks amazing.
