I saw this article from FIFA.com and thought it was an interesting possibility. With airfares between Cape Town and Johannesburg running between $500 and $700, how much worse could it be to stay in another country for part of the trip?

Make Sure Your Passport Is In Order

If you'll be traveling to the World Cup it is important to start thinking about your passport now. South Africa requires that your passport will be valid for at least 30 days after you leave there. Your expiration date should later than July 23, 2010 if you stay through the round of 16.

South Africa To Issue ‘Event Visas' for Soccer Fans

FIFA released a story outlining a plan by South Africa's Department of Home Affairs to issue event visas for fans traveling to the country for the Confederation Cup and the World Cup.

2010 Matches On Your Cell Phone

In Germany in 2006, I brought my RAZR phone with me and bought a SIM card from the European operator O2 for it. It is simple to switch them out and you pay by the minute, adding more minutes as you go. I had a German phone number too. It was a great way to stay in touch with people, and I am hoping to do the same thing in South Africa.
